I'd thought about commenting on this, but then I read this article by Kate Harding and realized that there was really nothing more to say:
Roman Polanski raped a child. Let's just start right there, because that's the detail that tends to get neglected when we start discussing whether it was fair for the bail-jumping director to be arrested at age 76, after 32 years in "exile" (which in this case means owning multiple homes in Europe, continuing to work as a director, marrying and fathering two children, even winning an Oscar, but never -- poor baby -- being able to return to the U.S.).
I'd like to thank Kate for writing this, for those of us who know and love 13 year-old girls and wish to nurture and protect them. It cuts straight to the heart of the matter and it's really all that need be said. Well, except the fact that her Daddy should have disposed of this piece of trash a long time ago. Read the whole thing and when anyone defends this pedophile, don't forget for a minute what they're defending and keep score.
